Worship
Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendour, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. (1 Chronicles 29:11 NIV)
"The Lord reigns, let the nations tremble; he sits enthroned between the cherubim, let the earth shake. Great is the Lord in Zion; he is exalted over all the nations. Let them praise your great and awesome name - he is holy. The King is mighty, he loves justice - you have established equity; in Jacob you have done what is just and right. Exalt the Lord our God and worship at his footstool; he is holy." Psalm 99:1-5 NIV |
Worship at Ivy Church is informal and ‘real.’ There are times of exuberant enthusiasm and other times of quiet stillness. So there are opportunities to express our joy and to experience God’s peace.
We come with thankful hearts to express our devotion to God and with humility and simplicity hoping to hear what God might ‘say’ to us. Ivy Church is Evangelical in belief - that is we base everything on the bible; and Pentecostal in practise. So there is opportunity for spiritual gifts to be expressed, in prophecy, messages in tongues and suchlike. Opportunity is regularly given for people to be prayed with and we expect God to ‘turn up’ and encourage, strengthen, bless and heal those with needs. We regularly pray for our City, nation and for World needs, and hear news from our global partners in various parts of the world. Worship isn’t primarily about experiencing something, although we often do, but it’s about putting God first in our lives. The songs we sing are fairly recently written ones, with a mixture of some from recent decades, and even the occasional classic hymn. We regularly break bread (holy communion) on a Sunday morning, and once a month we share a fellowship meal, following the all-age service. |
Ivy Church Worship Group
We are a group of singers and musicians that come from different backgrounds but all want to work together to provide heart-felt worship that will lift and inspire the congregation (and ourselves) to get into God’s presence. We want to give God all the praise and glory for all He is and does. On the practical side we have a rota of singers with three singing each week, one taking the lead, supported by electric piano and keyboard players, drummers, bass guitar and tenor horn (an eclectic mix!).
We have a monthly practice where we aim to learn a new song and introduce it to the congregation when we are confident with it, trying to keep up with great new songs whilst retaining the best of our older repertoire.
There is always room for new people in the worship group and we are keen to recruit the next generation, with some promising singers and drummers emerging.
